I was in the mood for some cheesy pasta goodness and this recipe popped up in my recipe box and I had almost everything to make it so I figured I would go for it.
The two big changes I made were 1) whole wheat pasta instead of plain for a little extra boost of fiber and 2) Munster instead of Swiss cheese because that’s the ingredient I was missing and that’s what I had. This recipe came together super easy, but does take a while in the oven so just be aware that it's going to take some time. Boil and drain pasta, mix cream, eggs and spices, add cheese. Combine these things in pot. Layer in casserole dish (mine was 9x13 because again, that's what I had.) No making a roux, or fancy sauce or anything like that. Just mix and pour.
Bake, covered for 30 minutes, uncover and top with more cheese. I also added more cheese at this step because it felt not-cheesy enough for me. Bake for 15 more minutes for it to all come together.
I do think if I had a bigger casserole dish it would come out better because the custard mixture is along the bottom, but it still came out quite tasty and wonderful! It definitely satisfied that craving I had and was very family friendly as well.
