Today is World Bread Day so I wanted to share this bakery French bread
recipe I found. Let me start by saying, this bread is absolutely
delicious, however, when most people think of "French bread" they think of
baguette, and given this made three long loaves, we were expecting something
more along those lines, which is why we gave this a lower rating (and yes,
this was totally our bad on this one!). When you push the baguette
idea out of your mind, you can fully enjoy this delicious bread.
Once you get the dough made, you roll it up into logs and score the top.
This is different from a lot of the other breads that have been popular to make
at home this year. You let it rise on the pan and it gets all fat and lovely in
less than an hour. The total time on these is also a lot less than your
sourdough-type breads so it's great to make when you have a time crunch.
Ours baked up to a beautiful golden brown, and you can see the hint of the
spiral in the slices. We love to serve fresh bread with a nice pasta dish
or a Sunday supper. Three loaves is quite a bit, so this is a great recipe
to make for gifting or freezing!
*Skip or adjust the last step with the egg to make this bread vegan.
