Happy Halloween Eve! This recipe helps take sugar cookies to a new level of spooky for this Halloween season. Using some food coloring and cookie stamps gives you beautiful Halloween vibes on a delicious cookie using typical pantry and fridge staples.
The dough reminds me a lot of chocolate chip cookie dough, but then you don't add any chocolate chips! I divided and then added back into my KitchenAid one at a time to mix in the color. I also just colored all of it since I had already made some natural color cookies with these stamps.
I was nervous for adding too much dye and winding up with super dark cookies, so I stopped when the dough was these shades. Now that I've baked them, I can safely say you can go a bit darker if you wish! They don't really darken or brown in the oven so you are safe to make this any color your heart desires! (They can also be made with any stamps for any season!)
I used the pumpkin stamp on the orange cookies, and the spider stamp on the black cookies. I skipped the cat stamp for this round. Do not skip the step to roll these in additional flour. I had originally missed it and had SUCH a hard time stamping, but once I realized it they turned out much much better. If you don't have cookie stamps, you could just roll the dough out (be sure to use a lot of flour) and use a round cookie cutter and then decorate with frosting or sugar if you wish.
These are freezer friendly and you can do all the legwork in advance - just freeze the stamped cookies on a wax paper lined tray until solid and then transfer over into a freezer bag to be ready for any Halloween fun! I baked them right from frozen and just added 1-2 minutes to the bake time.
