Happy National Donut Day! I've mentioned before that I love pumpkin baked goods, so when I heard of these pumpkin spice donuts, I knew I had to give them a try! (See other pumpkin recipes!)  This recipe only has 7 ingredients thanks to starting with a box of Spice Cake Mix to really keep it simple.  Great for a busy morning!  My batter stayed a bit chunky but I didn't want to overmix so I went with it!

The original recipe is made in a mini donut maker, but I only have classic donut pans for the oven, so I followed the modified instructions for baking them and they turned out just wonderful in full-size!  I used a piping bag to fill the pans with the least mess possible. I ended up with 18 donuts using these pans by Wilton.

They smelled so good when they first came out of the oven, and honestly they probably would have been great even without the final step at this point!

Adding the butter and cinnamon sugar topping just really took these over the edge.  The extra depth of flavor from the butter and little crunch from the sugar was just perfect.  These were given 5 stars all around!  I would maybe even use some colored sanding sugar next time for a bit more crunch and decoration.
