I fell in love with macarons after my Adventures by Disney trip to London and Paris, where we went to the home of the macaron. That was many years ago now, and I finally worked up the courage to give them a try myself. They are not the easiest cookie to make, but they also weren't nearly as hard as I thought they would be!
The hardest part for me was piping the batter evenly. I ended up with lots of different sizes and they were all kind of too big. But I think it was okay for a first attempt.
I was so excited to see that I did get feet on my first attempt! That is a sign of a classic macaron and I was so nervous I wouldn't get them. Unfortunately quite a few did crack as well, but I definitely had a few good ones to work with.
The reason I only gave these cookies a 3/5 is actually not due to the cookies at all, but the frosting. This frosting is just way too sweet for us. I made mine lemon to try to cut through some of the sugar but it still was just a bit overpowering with the sweetness. I'm hoping to find and try a new frosting recipe with them next time I give it a try.
