Double Chocolate M&M Cookies

Confession time: I really love seasonal M&Ms.  I know they are exactly the same candy as when it's the normal colors, but I pretty much can't ever resist them! I also love double chocolate cookies, so when I found this recipe it seemed like it was made just for me!

The dough comes together with things I always have on hand, so I can make these anytime that impulse buy on the M&Ms happens.  These are also drop cookies, so they are super easy to get going and very kid friendly to bake.  I use a cookie scoop to keep mine evenly sized, but it isn't necessary.

The recipe states to add a few extra M&Ms to the top of each cookie to help make the colors pop, but I never remember to do that step and they always turn out just fine.  If you want to freeze these, rather than putting them on parchment and into the oven, pop the dough drops onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet and into the freezer to harden.  Then pack them up in a freezer bag and they are ready to go anytime!  They bake easily right from frozen so you can make a little or make a lot.

They come out with a nice punch of chocolate flavor with a little crunch from the candy shell.  These are one of my favorites for their simplicity and mass appeal.  You can switch out the M&Ms to make them work for any holiday too.  The cookies do stay rather soft, so they don't travel super well, but they are delicious!
